Since the beginning of 2022, dozens of people in the China’s health system have been removed by a wide-ranging “anti-corruption” campaign, including Chinese Communist Party authorities, clinical hospitals, and other entities, involving a wide range of officials. This is very rare and at this time, the CCP’s crime of systematically harvesting organs from living people has attracted international attention.
As of August 31, a total of 83 senior officials in the China’s health system have fallen into disgrace and lost their positions. Their roles and positions are very different, and the corruption stretches from the health management units of the CCP Central Committee to various clinical hospitals at a grassroots level, and the medical supervision departments of local governments.
There is a huge black market for organ transplants in the CCP’s medical system. Falun Gong practitioners accuse the CCP of a long-standing systematic crime of live organ harvesting and trafficking, and Falun Gong practitioners (who are openly and secretly detained throughout China) are the victims.
An analytical report in the Cambridge Quarterly of Health Ethics published on July 28 found that China clearly violated the criteria for determining brain death, and organs were harvested from the living.
The report titled Cases Abusing Brain Death Definition in Organ Procurement in China reviewed publications such as the Chinese medical journal that describes the method of organ harvesting and concludes that some organ donors are not brain dead or nor have their hearts stopped when their organs are removed.
The article said that descriptions of organ harvesting procedures in Chinese medical journals showed that, before doctors induced cardiac arrest to remove the heart, the heart was still beating. “Organ donors with a beating heart, not a brain-dead donor whose heart is no longer beating.”
The article also states, “In these cases, ‘donor organs’ can be obtained from living people and ‘donors’ are killed by medical professionals through organ transplantation.”
On July 20, 1999, during the rule of Jiang Zemin, the former leader of the CCP, Falun Gong practitioners were persecuted by the CCP. After 2000, the CCP began to systematically harvest organs for sale from detained Falun Gong practitioners. In the years that followed, the extremely short wait times for organs showed that there was a large population of organ donors living in China.
In the United States, the wait time for a heart transplant ranges from six months to several years, while in China the wait time is only weeks, even days to find a match and enter the surgical stage.
For example, on April 8, Mu Jiangang, a lecturer at Lanzhou University, suffered a heart attack, after being taken to the hospital, he found out that some of his heart tissue was dying and he needed a heart transplant.
On May 6, Mu was transferred to Wuhan Union Hospital, the leading organ transplant hospital in China, and he was placed on a waiting list for a heart transplant. Four days later, Mu received a matching donor heart and completed the transplant.
Not only is the wait time for matching organs extremely short, but in China there is a phenomenon where a patient can receive multiple sources of organs at the same time.
On June 12, 2020, a 24-year-old female named Sun Ling Ling was admitted to Wuhan Union Hospital within 13 days, the hospital found 4 sources of a suitable heart for her to choose from.
The first heart was transferred to the hospital on June 16, but the doctors in charge of the operation thought that the coronary artery of the heart was not working properly, so they had to get another.
The second heart was ready on June 19, but because Sun had a fever and was not healthy enough for a heart transplant, this heart was sent elsewhere.
On June 25, there were two matching hearts to choose from. By this time, Sun’s condition had improved significantly. Finally, the surgeon chose the heart of a 33-year-old man hundreds of miles away. The remaining replacement heart belonged to a local woman and doctors didn’t use it for fear it was not healthy enough.
These two cases were first reported by Chinese media. Many other cases have been reported by Chinese state media and the two patients mentioned gave their real names and identities.
During Jiang Zemin’s rule, Falun Gong practitioners were systematically persecuted, and the black organ transplant industry began to expand, with the China’s medical system directly involved in the crime of live organ harvesting, of which Falun Gong practitioners. In 2012, when Xi Jinping, came to power, bitter infighting broke out with Jiang Zemin’s faction. Officials in the health system led by Jiang’s faction has repeatedly lost their positions in recent years.
Chao Jie, a Japanese commentator on current affairs, told The Epoch Times that Falun Gong practitioners have been brutally persecuted by the CCP. “Live organ harvesting has crossed the last line of human morality, and the purging of CCP’s officials in the health system today can also be seen as a form of retribution.”
