The public security authorities in Shijiazhuang City, the capital of the northern province of Hebei, announced on September 24 that they would supervise COVID-19 testing labs in the city. The move came after current COVID outbreaks broke out in the city’s Yuhua district with an unknown origin.

Before that, Yuhua district authorities ordered its residents not to go out unless necessary, starting from 6:00 on September 13 to 6:00 on September 16.

According to Chinese media, Apollo, a Chinese laboratory in Shijiazhuang City, has been recently investigated. The lab has been accused of concealing positive COVID results many times.

During the inspection, authorities found that the city’s Harmony Health laboratory had not reported a positive case among a batch of 20 samples collected from Sunshine 361 Residential Community in Yuhua on September 14.

As a result, authorities say COVID broke out in the community on September 21.

Shijiazhuang police have filed a case for investigation.

The laboratory, operated by Beijing Harmony Health Medical Diagnostics, was established on November 4 last year.

In April, Hefei Harmony Health laboratory of Beijing Harmony Health Medical Diagnostics was also warned.

According to state-run media Xinhua News Agency, on April 22, Hefei Harmony Health laboratory and Hefei Nuoweier Health laboratory were both warned.

One of the issues is that they have repeatedly hidden COVID positive results. This has seriously affected Hefei’s pandemic prevention and control.

After a spike in cases was reported in the city, Shijiazhuang was placed in “emergency status” on August 28.
