On July 21, 2022, about 2,000 Falun Gong practitioners gathered at the National Mall in the U.S. capital Washington D.C. for a solemn candlelight vigil to mourn fellow practitioners. Darren Spinck, an associate researcher in Spanish at the Henry Jackson Society, explained why everyone should be concerned about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and what American authorities can do to stop this cruel persecution.
It has taken Falun Gong practitioners 23 years to peacefully counter the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s atrocity of live organ harvesting of their fellow practitioners since July 20, 1999.
Spinck said: “It’s time for Washington, London, and Brussels to investigate reports of genocide against Falun Gong practitioners by the CCP and take action.”
Spinck mentioned his takeaway from the International Religious Freedom Summit in Washington last month: Everyone has a right to religious freedom at all times. He met some event organizers and heard terrible stories about the persecution of practitioners.
According to Spinck, Western countries have shown alarm and responded appropriately to the Communist Party’s atrocities against Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang. He added that Washington, London, and Brussels have started cutting off China’s supply chain, holding Chinese Communist officials responsible.
The U.S. House of Representatives and the European Parliament had passed resolutions against the CCP’s involvement in live organ harvesting.
He thinks that Western governments, including the U.S., should have noticed the atrocities suffered by Falun Gong practitioners a long time ago.
He stated, “There are credible reports that they have taken stronger action to hold the CCP and its officials accountable.”
Spinck cited a report in the Wall Street Journal in May that doctors in China were removing organs from living people who had not been declared brain dead.
Spinck said the report claims that 56 hospitals in China harvest organs from living people.
According to the Hudson Institute report in February, religious minorities, including Falun Gong practitioners, must undergo medical examinations when arrested and enter the results into the living organ resource database.
Spinck added, “this proves the intent of genocide.”
He continued, “in June 2021, United Nations human rights experts expressed alarm that religious minorities, including Falun Gong practitioners, were used as living “donors” whose hearts, kidneys, livers, and corneas were removed.”
He reminded, “an independent London court ruled that crimes against humanity against Falun Gong and Uighurs have been proven, which is beyond doubt.”
Although Freedom House in 2017 found that the Chinese regime has sentenced hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners to labor camps, there are still plenty of undisclosed cases.
Spinck finally said, “It’s time for the governments and governments of London and the European Union to name officials, CCP officials, and medical professionals who are complicit in organ harvesting and sanction them under the global Magnitsky human rights system.”
